Dogs with long hair have more problems with their fur than those with short hair. Tear Staining is a big issue for heavily matted canines because the hair gets in their eyes and makes them tear terribly. This causes dark streaks down their snouts and if it gets infected it’s just the beginning of trouble.
Aside from keeping the hair out of their eyes, you have to make sure the area is clean and dry. If there is a lot of moisture around the eyes from the tears it can attract fleas. Once you’ve got fleas setting up around the eyes it can cause infections from their bites and the dust and feces they leave behind.
