The alternate name to wine making is vinification, which is the process of selecting the appropriate grape variety and processing them before being bottled as finishes wine. Most and not all wine is made from grapes, for there are alternate sources available like fruit or non-toxic plant material which can also yield wine. Water serves as a major ingredient in most wines; however there is a kind of wine which has honey as its second major ingredient.
The classification to wine making is done based on the methods of production and are called still wine production and sparkling wine production. In order to get good quality grapes one has to observe factors like weather during the growing season, soil minerals and acidity, time of harvest and pruning method, which would in turn yield good quality wine. A final dose of sulphite is added to the wine to preserve it and also prevent it from unwanted fermentation in the bottle. My next post will be about, homemade wine making kit.
