If you love unique wooden mailboxes then why not make your own? It is a cheap way of getting something that you are sure is going to be put together good and sturdy and will last you a long time. It is not that difficult to do and you can make it a weekend project.First of all, you have to get all your materials ready so you will need to do some cutting and measuring before you get going on the building part. You will need 72 inches of 1×8 finished oak or rough sawn oak, 2- one and a half brass hinges, 2-2 1/2 brass screw, 2 Brass finished washers to hang the mailbox, and 4- 1 inch wood screws to attach the spacers. You will also need 2 sides that measure 5 inches by 7 and three quarter inches by 5 eight inches. The front needs to measure 12 at 18 inches by 6 1/2 inches by five eight inches. The back consists off 12 1/8″ by 7 3/4″ by five eight inches. The top measures 14 x 6 x 5/8 inches, the bottom measures 12 and 1/8 x 4 x 1/2 inch and 2 spacers measure 7 x2 x 5/8 inches.These are all the materials you will need to make your weekend project and with some screws and glue it is not very difficult to put together. The sides are the right size to receive the other parts of your mailbox. Place the sections inside and you will have a mailbox that will last for many years. The choice of finish is yours. This mailbox will hold all kinds of mail such as big envelopes, junk mail and most of all your regular mail and you will have the pride of making it yourself.
