One of the most cruital steps in the design and manufacturing of any medical device includes the laboratory testing. No device can be sent to market without proof that it is safe for use. There are a number of things that have to be tested for. The first is to determine whether the device is sterile and will not cause infection, then biocompatibility must be established for any device that will touch human skin. Finally an ames test must be conducted to ensure that the device is not likely to cause cancer in patients. Though this process can be lengthy, good lab testing is important and can make or break the success of a product.
